If one has to point to just one element that has the potential to drastically change the way a
room can look, it would be color. With colors, you can create calm, relaxing areas and also
create vibrant, energetic spaces with the same ease. However, there are so many options of
colors and ideas that you may result in a confused state. Before you look up the rules of
colors and how to use them in your interiors, understand that there are countless myths
surrounding them. Here, the interior designers of Delhi bust some of those common myths.
Busting the Myths
Believing in numerous color myths may limit you from creating a beautiful space. Don’t let
the fear of breaking the ‘rules of color’ get the better of you. Once you get past the myths,
you can see how colors can indeed liven up a place and change the entire look of your
interiors.
Myth 1: Using dark colors in rooms will feel depressing and emanate negative energy
Dark colors will feel depressing if there is no proper lighting to complement the same. The
lack of natural light along with dark hues will lend a cave-like feeling and thus feel gloomy.
This holds true if the rooms are really small. However, opting for dark colors in slightly
bigger rooms, where there is plenty of natural light along with numerous windows, will lend
a rich feel. Artificial lights at night could do the same trick. Balance out the dark walls by
having lighter furniture, accessories and flooring.
Myth 2: Pastel shades exude a feminine touch
If you are not a fan of dark shades for your walls and accessories, then pastels shades are the
best option to go with. However, the myth of such shades being too feminine may keep you
away from them as well. Pastels have always been associated with femininity but they can
create stunning spaces that are suitable for both the genders. Opt for pastels for some
furniture pieces and choose a darker saturation of the same shade to balance the rest of the
space out. Perfect balances of mild and deeper shades of pastels look rich and elegant.
Myth 3: A lighter, especially white, ceiling makes the room bigger and cleaner
Agreed, white ceilings reflect light better and create an illusion of space. However, that does
not mean you cannot experiment with colors and awesome ceilings styles. Interesting
architectural designs such as coffered ceilings, beams, barrel vault, tray, vaulted or dome
ceilings with interesting color palettes would add an interesting dimension to your interiors
and lend a stunning look. Colors would in fact enhance such ceiling details.
Myth 4: Every room should have a different color to express individuality
Interior designers in Delhi believe this to be the biggest myth related to color. Every room
in a different color would not lend a smooth flow. The trick is to express individuality
through a palette where all different colors that you opt for different rooms coordinate well
with each other. When the colors lie close to each other in the spectrum yet convey
individuality, you know you are on the right path.
